Once an adventurer dies, that specific temple becomes locked away forever to them and the phantoms of fallen players can help guide future players to see what obstacles lie ahead. Once the treasure at the end of the temple has been claimed, the temple goes away forever, too.

Phantom Run Speed Why does it seem like every phantom has a faster run speed than myself. Hard to use the Bamboo Whip if everyone can out run you in a hallway.

Ultimately, From the Abyss won't enter history for having set any milestone within the console portfolio, because although it has a good presentation, its concept can result repetitive for players expecting a good blend between action and story.

in its current state it offers very little reason to try new whips once you find the ones you like. In the previous versions of the game to spice up the run I could try a new whip and because the whip was cursed it Phantom Abyss adds a new Em excesso challenge. And the reward for winning with the curse was a non cursed version of the whip where you just had the unique whip benefit.

Phantom Abyss also taps into some roguelike elements with its blessing system, which offers you random power-ups for the run’s duration in exchange for collected treasure. Treasure is found in chests hidden throughout each temple, redeemable at statues between floors that offer one of two presented blessings, adding other strategic decisions to the action.

Speedhackers already? I may be out of the loop, but I occasionally see phantoms that run at 2x or 3x the speed of a regular person, and depending on what type of whip I'm running, that takes steam out of my sails.

Without the gimmick, game gets repetitive and boring really quick, it feels like you're incentivized not to play now but later instead to see other phantoms in the same temples as you are.
